What I strongly recommend is for you to download Flipboard app. You just have to sync your Facebook and Twitter account and then you can acces your feed in a new, beautiful and fluid way, like you were reading a magazine or a newspaper. As for any other apps i tried, everything was fine, so before switching to a newer Ipad, just try those simple alternate way, which just gave my ipad 1 a lifetime extension.
Dec 31, AM. This seems to be a glitch which is specific to the 1st generation iPad. A lot of people have reported this problem on the Facebook help page, so maybe now it will get some attention. Facebook made the decision to no longer support earlier iOS versions. There are workarounds as have been mentioned above, but don't expect any real change on this.
I had this problem too, and found the solution in another thread so thought I'd cross-post. The "legacy" archived versions of apps are only downloadable if you have already "bought" the app even if it's free.
Following advice I found on this other thread, I used my Apple ID to "buy" the current version of the app, downloading it onto my computer in the app store. Then I tried to download the app again from the iPad.
